OrderConnect non-NDC orders
As of , OrderConnect will add 4000 additional products to the OrderConnect database that are called “Non-NDC” products. These are products that are not traditionally ‘prescribed’ but may be ordered for a patient. Such items may include:
- needles
- catheters
- glucometers
- foot powder
- aloe vera
How to Order
When choosing the items to order, the prescriber will still need to complete the same required fields as a prescription. For example, if a prescriber is ordering a glucometer and would like choose “1 Unit As Directed," then she/he would create a custom SIG that reads ‘Use as Directed.” The prescriber will also still need to indicate a Days Supply in order to proceed which the pharmacy will likely disregard.
While your prescribers will now be able to order these in OrderConnect they will not be able to send these types of items electronically. However, they will have the ability to fax the prescriptions/orders to the pharmacy or to print the prescription/order.
