Required for Avatar & OrderConnect
This article will show the needed installs to use the Avatar EHR application as well as the OrderConnect application for e-prescribing. Specifically this is to assist BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) users with validating their machines will be able to run these applications.
Avatar
The Avatar EHR application needs the following to run fully:
Windows 10 Operating System - Note that Windows 11 has not been tested and is not approved
Java SE Runtime Environment - Avatar runs on Java as a platform through the use of an applet. As of Nov 4, 2021, the version that Telecare uses is completely dependent on it. Downloads must have the exact name shown; other versions will not work (like Server JRE or Development Kit)
Need to install a 32-bit version (64-bit versions will not work)
Needs to be version 1.8 u25 to 1.8u281 - we suggest 1.8u201 as Telecare is standardized on that version

Google Chrome Browser - Avatar will also run on Internet Explorer 10 or 11, but it is not recommended
Crystal Report Viewer 11.5 (Optional) - Required to run/display most reports from Avatar
OrderConnect
The OrderConnect e-prescribing application needs the following to run fully:
Internet Explorer 11 - This application checks the browser and browser version upon accessing, and will display an error if attempting to run in a browser that is not IE 11. If you are using IE 10, it is strongly recommended you upgrade to IE 11 due to security risks with IE 10 due to Microsoft no longer supporting it.
Notes
MacOS has been used with Avatar successfully; however, we do not have insight as to the specific setup and it is not approved by the vendor, Netsmart
If using OrderConnect in conjunction with Avatar (specifically launching OrderConnect from Avatar), then Internet Explorer must be selected as your default browser
VMs (Virtual Machines) as well as the Citrix application has been used with Avatar successfully
